WIMBLEDON SEMIFINALIST TATJANA MARIA SERVES AT THE BAD HOMBURG OPEN 2023

Great news: The Wimbledon semi-finalist of 2022 will come to the Kurpark this summer. Tatjana Maria has given her commitment for the third edition of the Bad Homburg Open presented by Engel & Völkers (June 24 to July 01). And the German number two can hardly wait for her return to Hesse. “It really is one of my favorite tournaments. Everything just fits there: the organization is super, the facility is super, the hotel is super,” Tatjana Maria emphasized.

Last summer, the 35-year-old took advantage of the special conditions in the historic Kurpark to prepare perfectly for Wimbledon. At the most important Grand Slam event, she was able to celebrate her greatest success to date by surprisingly reaching the semifinals.

On the WTA Tour, Tatjana Maria, who is coached by her husband Charles, is something of a trendsetter. With their two daughters Charlotte (9) and Cecilia (2), the ever-popular tennis couple travels the world. Charles Maria, by the way, almost always has the Bad Homburg Open with him. Since last summer, the blue baseball cap with the tournament logo has virtually been part of the Frenchman’s standard equipment when he sits in the box at the tournaments or stands on the training court.

Tatjana Maria about…

…her dream run to the semifinals of Wimbledon 2022:

“It was an incredible two weeks with quite a lot of positive emotions that we had at Wimbledon last year. It was incredible to experience all this together with my family on site.“

…the myth of Wimbledon:

“I would describe Wimbledon as elegant. It’s an incredible place. When you first walk into the facility and you see the green grass everywhere, it brings about a lot of tranquility. The feeling is unique when you walk in there for the first time.”

…her special connection to the Bad Homburg Open presented by Engel & Völkers:

“I’m definitely looking forward to coming back to Bad Homburg because it really is one of my favorite tournaments. We had a great time last year. Everything just fits there: the organization is super, the facility is super, the hotel is super. You can walk directly from the hotel to the tournament venue , which is perfect for us, of course. We liked it mega mega in the spa town!“

…a meeting among mothers with tournament ambassador Angelique Kerber:

“I’m really looking forward talking to her in Bad Homburg and can’t wait to see Angie again.“

…her perfect family day in Bad Homburg

“We get up, have breakfast, then go to the facility. Our daughter Charlotte also trains every morning. I often play with her, afterwards she works for school. Last year, on the days when we didn’t play, we usually all went into town together, went shopping, went for a walk. There’s really a lot to do in Bad Homburg, and we’re looking forward to it.“

… her role as a mother on the WTA-Tour – and trendsetter:

“For me, there’s nothing better than traveling around the world together with my family. That’s just perfect. It’s important to me to always have everyone with me. My husband and I are relaxed, which is very important because, there are things like the weekly travels and the jet lag. I think it’s just very important to enjoy every moment. Because what’s better than being together all the time…?!”

3 things about Tatjana Maria you (maybe) didn’t know yet:

  • US tennis icon Venus Williams has been the Maria family’s neighbor in Florida for years and has often babysat Tatyana’s older daughter Charlotte.
  • The native of Swabia initially played the backhand two-handed in her career, but after the birth of Charlotte she then switched to the one-handed backhand in 2013.
  • In 2008, she suffered a life-threatening pulmonary embolism at the tournament in Indian Wells and had to take a three-month break as a result.
