WELCOME BACK! LAST YEAR’S FINALIST BIANCA ANDREESCU IS RETURNING

The next prominent confirmation for the Bad Homburg Open presented by Engel & Völkers (June 24 to July 1): After Iga Swiatek, the undisputed No. 1 in the world and recent Stuttgart winner, and Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria, last year’s finalist Bianca Andreescuhas now also confirmed her participation ahead of time.

Last year, the 2019 US Open winner was narrowly beaten by Caroline Garcia in a high-class final over 2:41 hours at the Kurpark. Afterwards, Bianca Andreescu, the former world number four, in particular also praised the great atmosphere on the tournament site: “For many and very different reasons, it feels as if you are at a tournament of the 1000 category and not the 250 category. There is simply a super atmosphere on every corner. That’s terrific and can’t be taken for granted!“

“Bibi” Andreescu – a power player with many facets

Three and a half years ago, Bianca Andreescu won the final duel between the two power players against superstar Serena Williams in Flushing Meadows. This was followed by setbacks due to injury and a time-out. In search of herself, the 22-year-old Canadian took dance lessons, played basketball, took up martial arts, played music – and completed an internship in a children’s clinic.

Her approach to a number of things has changed as a result of these experiences. Her love for tennis has been rekindled after her time away – and, most importantly, has become much more multifaceted. “I now look at my sport as another opportunity to grow as a person,” Andreescu explained, “and that’s really something I’m passionate about. I feel like I’ve found myself!” Most recently, she defeated two Grand Slam champions in Emma Raducanu and Sofia Kenin at the Miami tournament.

Iga Swiatek in impressive form – tournament triumph in Stuttgart

There is also good news from Bad Homburg Open starter Iga Swiatek, who has been at the top of the WTA rankings for over a year now. The young Pole defended her title at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart last Sunday and underlined her current dominance.

If you want to see top stars like Iga Swiatek and Bianca Andreescu live on the Spielbank Bad Homburg Centre Court and see who will succeed Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber and world champion Caroline Garcia as tournament champions in the Kurpark, you should get your tickets soon.
